In spite of the fact this is nothing new, it still came across as bizarre learning that Bollywood recreated Noor Jehan’s famous ‘Zaalima Coca Cola‘ song for a movie that many consider anti-Pakistan due to its plot and rhetoric.
The movie Bhuj: The Pride of India loosely follows events that occurred during the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. During the war, a celebrated Indian airforce pilot pursues an airbase that was bombed by Pakistan’s Air Force.
According to the trailer, Pakistan is demonized in the plot and rhetoric. The patriotic drama film stars Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, and Sonakshi Sinha. Moreover, it is set to release on Disney+ Hotstar in August. As if all of this were not enough to make the Pakistani Twittersphere riled up, a song from the movie called ‘Zaalima Coca Cola‘ also made users furious.
If you are not familiar with the song, it is in fact a recreated version of Noor Jehan’s classic song ‘Zaalima Coca Cola‘. Additionally, the Coca Cola commercial featuring the singer Meesha Shafi also popularized it. This rendition of Noor Jehan’s iconic composition Zaalima Coca Cola starring Nora Fatehi is a peppy dance number.

It appears that the Bollywood version’s YouTube description gives Noor Jehan’s song original song credit. Additionally, it states that the video is licensed to both T-Series and EMI Pakistan. Whether or not they gave the artist credit, Twitter users seem unpleased and enraged with the Bollywood recreation of a Pakistani song. In addition to this, heightened outrage occurred at the fact that they used Pakistan’s song in a movie that appears strongly anti-Pakistan.

Well, this is not the first time that an Indian music producer has plagiarized a Pakistani beat.
According to Farhan Saeed, the Bollywood composer Salim Merchant ripped off his song ‘Roiyaan’ in 2019. More so, the song ‘Hawa Hawa‘ from the 2017 film Mubarakan is a recreation of Hassan Jahangir’s 1987 hit of the same name.
Last year, the Bollywood movie Sadak 2, the sequel to the 90s cult classic of the same name, also came under fire for stealing the song of Pakistani music producer Shezan Saleem aka JO-G. The Pakistani producer artist uploaded a video in which he compared Sadak 2 song played in the trailer with his composition.
