Four civilians and a soldier of the Pakistan Army were martyred on Friday in “unprovoked and indiscriminate” firing by Indian troops. Indian forces target the civilian population in several areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
At least 12 civilians and five soldiers were injured in the ceasefire violations.
India also suffered “substantial losses” in terms of troops and material. Pakistan Army replied to them bravely, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.
According to the Hindu, 10 people have died in India. The dead include six civilians, three Indian soldiers, and a Border Security Force (BSF) soldier.
Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir in full. Indian forces regularly violate the ceasefire and target the civilian population on the Pakistani side.
However, the shelling on Friday was particularly intense.
“As usual they targeted civilian populations without any remorse,” said Syed Shahid Qadri, a government official in AJK.
It is tragic that Indian forces continue to violate human rights in the occupied valley and across the region. Meanwhile, more than 40 civilians have been killed in firing between Pakistan and Indian this year.
Meanwhile, both sides have suffered similar fatalities. In August, Indian forces had martyred an 18-year-old girl in Pakistan.
