Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday said that the calendar released by the ministry shows that the Eid-ul-Fitr will fall on Sunday, May 24. However, Pakistan Meteorological Department said Eid will be on Monday, May 25.
According to weathermen, there is little likelihood of the sighting of Shawwal moon on the evening of May 23 (Saturday) as the crescent will be born on Ramazan 28(May 22) at 10:39pm, so Eidul Fitr is likely to take place on May 25.
While Chaudhry said that the entire world including Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia will celebrate Eid on May 24 and Pakistan will too celebrate the event on the same day. He also appeared on a TV show on Aaj TV where he said that Pakistan will celebrate the Eid with most of the world this time.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Karachi on the PMD offices for Shawwal moon sighting on May 23. Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Munibur Rehman will announce the decision of the moon sighting or otherwise on the basis of evidence collected.
While addressing Virtual Meet the Press to overseas journalists organized by Pakistan Press Club International, Chaudhry said that the sighting of the crescent has become a sectarian issue, where Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman and Mufti Popalzai stand on two extremes.
Popalzai is Imam, Khatib, and head of the regional moon-sighting committee in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Usually, Peshawar is known for celebrating Eid a day before entire Pakistan.
