A corrupt traffic cop was arrested while enjoying Kulfi in Bhakkar city as Anti-Corruption Establishment personnel caught him red-handed with the bribe. The unusual incident took place in the Bakkar District of Punjab.
Taking to Twitter, the Anti-Corruption Establishment shared a video clip after reporting the incident. The video shows the staff from the Anti-Corruption Department of Punjab entering an office where they spot the accused traffic cop, identified as Muhammad Idrees, beating the heat with a kulfi who later got arrested.
The anti-corruption personnel snatched the kulfi from his hand. Following that, he recovered the bribe amount from the front pockets of the uniform of the morally deficient traffic cop who appeared stunned by the swift action of ACE personnel.
“It is more enjoyable to eat kulfi with your halal earnings,” read the tweet. “Constable Bhakkar Muhammad Idrees, chief of the traffic police department, was arrested for taking a bribe of Rs18,000. The corrupt official was having fun when the anti-corruption raid took place.”

Efficient and well-functioning police service is essential for maintaining law and order within a country. At the same time, the police force should also address rising crime rates and a deteriorating law-and-order situation, among various other tasks.
However, the capacity of the Pakistan Police Service to deliver on various fronts has been severely diminished by political manipulation, the lack of forensic services, insufficient training and equipment, corruption, and weaknesses in the judicial sphere. Many Pakistanis consider the institution of the police as corrupt, institutionally incompetent, and brutal. This notion was recently evident in a bribing incident in Punjab.
Police threatens a local citizen for bribe
Earlier, a video on Twitter showed how a police official in Punjab asking for a bribe from local citizen. The policeman threatened the local citizen for no apparent reason to give him Rs500, otherwise, he would take his vehicle into police custody.
In Pakistan, police officers mostly get the blame as they are visible to everyone. Moreover, they are expected to do everything from crisis management to resolving legal and political disputes. Besides, they have to face the anger of citizens venting their frustrations over blunders that are committed by the leadership of the country, both political and military. But the police cannot be defended for corruption and inefficiency.
Over the years, the government of Pakistan has attempted to introduce different reforms in police. However, all such attempts made reluctantly have had only a marginal impact. The extent of the problem is such that disjointed reforms can have little impact on the overall situation.
