Fawad Alam, a middle-order hitter in Pakistan, retires after a 15-year career to compete in the Minore League Cricket T20 tournament. As a local player, Fawad will represent the Chicago Kingsmen in the T20 event. His migration to the USA will also allow him to play in the Major League Cricket (MLC) in the future.
Fawad Alam Retires From International Cricket
Fawad is not the first Pakistani player to make the decision. Several players from the country, like Sami Aslam, Hammad Azam, Mohammad Mohsin, and Saif Badar, have previously relocated to the United States in quest of more and better possibilities.
Fawad’s international career for Pakistan began with the One-Day International format of the game. In May 2007, he faced Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi, and on September 4, 2007, he made his T20I debut against Kenya in Nairobi.
His Test debut came two years later, in July when Pakistan faced Sri Lanka at the P Sara Oval in Colombo.
With batting stars like Mohammad Yousuf (originally), Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, and Misbah-ul-Haq in Pakistan’s middle order in Tests, Fawad’s opportunities were few and far between.
He appeared in 19 Tests for Pakistan, scoring 1011 runs at an average of 38.88, with five hundred and two half-centuries. He had more opportunities in white-ball formats, and more ODI games are on the way.
In 38 One-Day Internationals for Pakistan, the Southpaw scored 966 runs at an average of 40.25, including a century and six half-centuries. The 37-year-old also had a considerable amount of opportunity to ply his craft in T20Is, but he only managed to score 194 runs at a strike rate of 114.79.
The continual influx of players to the United States could be a severe problem for Pakistan in the future.
