The renowned cricketer was reportedly interested in being named the head selector of the national setup by the recently established management committee, according to a story from last week.
Zaka Ashraf made a number of modifications to the way the cricket board conducted its business after taking over as Chairman of the PCB Management Committee.
31 Test matches under Inzamam-ul-haq‘s leadership saw Pakistan win 11, lose 11, and draw 9.
Additionally, he captained Pakistan in 87 ODIs, compiling a record of 51 wins, 33 losses, and three tie games.
Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Hasan Cheema, a secretary who works with data analysts for the Pakistani squad, will also be on the selection committee that Inzamam will lead.
On the committee led by Haroon Rasheed, a member of the previous Management Committee, no other former Pakistani player was included. After Muhammad Wasim was fired from the same position in December 2022, Rasheed was named as the selection committee’s head in January of this year. Rasheed did leave the role, though, last month.
Next week, according to a source, will be crucial because if Arthur and Bradburn are excluded from the selection process, they might not be happy because they only agreed to become coaches after receiving firm guarantees from former PCB head Najam Sethi that they would have a say in matters of selection.
Arthur hasn’t physically joined the team yet because he’s been too busy coaching English County team Derbyshire, but he will take charge of the team in the final stages of the Asia Cup and will be available for the World Cup in India and the team’s tour of Australia later this year.
When Arthur was in charge previously, Pakistan won the 2017 Champions Trophy before failing to advance to the 2019 ICC World Cup semifinals, and Inzamam collaborated with Arthur throughout that time.
