The highly anticipated Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan will be challenged in Sri Lanka. The two arch-rivals will meet twice in the tournament’s group-stage matchups, which will take place from September 2nd to September 10th.
Pakistan India Asia Cup 2023 Matches Schedule
The schedule for the multi-nation event has not yet been released. However, according to the most recent news sources, the opening group match between India and Pakistan is scheduled for September 2nd, with the second match scheduled for September 10th.
On August 30 or 31, Pakistan will travel to face Nepal in Multan for their opening group game. On the same day, Multan will host the tournament’s opening ceremony. Pakistan will host the Asia Cup 2023 games in Lahore as well.
The Pakistani squad would leave right after their first game against Nepal if the suggested schedule is accepted. Before traveling to Sri Lanka for the remaining matches, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will play their group matches in Pakistan.
The Asia Cup 2023 schedule will be officially announced on Wednesday.
The event would be held from August 31st to September 17th, according to the hybrid format proposed by the old PCB executive committee, managed by Najam Sethi, after India rejected to go to Pakistan. Despite various obstacles, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) eventually adopted the hybrid format.
The first four matches of the tournament will be contested in Pakistan, followed by a relocation to Sri Lanka for nine matches, including the final, under this allowed agreement.
Zaka Ashraf, head of the PCB executive committee, had first expressed major opposition to the hybrid concept for the Asia Cup. He later confirmed, however, that the board will uphold its pledge to the ACC and its members by moving forward with the “hybrid model” for the Asia Cup.
Although Ashraf does not entirely accept this concept, he stated that PCB would respect the previous management’s choice.
When Ashraf was appointed chairman of the PCB management committee, he explored the potential of expanding the number of Asia Cup matches conducted in Pakistan, but this will not be achievable, as predicted. According to the Asian Cricket Council, Pakistan will now host four Asia Cup matches.
Meanwhile, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Salman Naseer, has been named Asia Cup’s tournament director.
