Asia Cup 2023 venues and dates were announced finally after months of delay. On Thursday, Asian Cricket Council made a major announcement regarding Asia Cup 2023 venue and shared the complete schedule details.
All the cricket enthusiasts were eagerly waiting for this great news, a few days ago BCCI accepted the hybrid model proposed by Pakistan Cricket Board and since then the progress of the Asia Cup began.
This time Nepal will also participate in the tournament for the first ever. On the other hand, you get to see big elite teams such as Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.
Asia Cup 2023 Venues and Dates Announced
Asia Cup 2023 will be held from 31st August to 17th September 2023. This time, Asia Cup 2023 will be 50-over format rather than T20 like last year.
ACC chose 50 over because teams need to practice for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in October right after this tournament.
As per the proposal, the tournament will be hosted via a hybrid model, with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine in Sri Lanka.
Here’s the complete Hybrid Model matches layout:
Pakistan vs Nepal |
Bangladesh vs Afghanistan |
Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka |
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh |
All of these matches will be held at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore. Recently things got out of hand when the news regarding Asia Cup circulated that Asia Cup preparation had begun without Pakistan.
“The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka. The 2023 Edition will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then face off in the final,” the Asian Cricket Council said in a statement.
Recap of Asia Cup 2023 Venue Saga
Before this outcome, there was a considerable argument took place regarding Asia Cup 2023 venue. Earlier, Asia Cup was supposed to be held in Pakistan rather than divided into two countries.
BCCI first agreed to visit Pakistan for the event, but later took a U-turn and refused to visit Pakistan. To keep the Asia Cup hopes, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi tried everything to negotiate with BCCi and introduced a hybrid model.
BCCI even rejected the hybrid model and then ICC convinced the Indian cricket board in the end. The rest is history for now.
