New York’s Empire State Building was scaled for the first time by Jared Leto, according to the historic landmark’s officials.
A Morbius star, 51, ascended floors 86–104 of the skyscraper on Thursday (9 November). The building’s tallest point, nearly 1,300 feet above the ground, was reached after a roughly 20-minute climb.
Leto explained the stunt to NBC’s Today show as a way of fulfilling a bucket list dream and promoting his rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars’s 2024 tour.
According to the House of Gucci actor, he felt more excited than nervous. “But I have to admit, it was extremely difficult. I thought it would be easier, but it was a lot harder than I expected.”

Leto explained why he chose the Empire State Building: “I’ve always had a fascination with it, and I love to climb it”
Whenever I’m in a city, I like to climb buildings,” he said. “it’s a really fun thing to do.”
Leto shocked passersby by free-climbing a five-star hotel in Berlin in June. A few months later, he pulled off another wild act, bungee jumping from a scaffolding top to start his band’s performance at a music festival in Texas.
In celebration of the release of their most recent album, It’s the End of the World But It’s a Beautiful Day, Thirty Seconds to Mars will go on a big world tour in 2019 that runs from March through September.

Tickets for the pre-sale in North America will go on sale tomorrow, November 10, at 10:00 a.m. local time. Fans can access pre-sale specials by entering the password “seasons.” Sales of general tickets will begin on Friday, November 17.
Leto and his elder brother Shannon founded the Los Angeles rock group in 1998. The group has released six studio albums in the course of their existence; their most recent CD was made available in September. The Leto brothers have stayed in “The Kill” band lineups despite several lineup changes throughout the years.
