News is not good! Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar warned on Friday about clear signs of a 4th COVID-19 wave starting in Pakistan.
In a message on Twitter, the minister said, “Two weeks ago, I had tweeted that our artificial intelligence models are showing the possible emergence of a fourth wave. Now there are clear early signs of a fourth wave starting.”
Asad Umar blamed poor compliance with coronavirus-related standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the spread of virus variants, particularly the Delta variant that was first detected in India, for the looming 4th wave of COVID-19 in Pakistan.
He said reports were showing a complete disregard of the condition of vaccination in wedding halls, restaurants, and gyms.
“If the owners of these facilities do not show responsibility and ensure compliance, there will be no choice but to shut them down,” he said.
Meanwhile, Umar’s warning has come a day after Prime Minister Imran expressed worry in a video message. He was concerned about a looming fourth wave of Covid-19 and termed the Delta variant the “biggest concern”.
In his message to the nation, PM had referred to Afghanistan, Indonesia, and other countries hit by the Delta variant. Moreover, he expressed concern over the upward trajectory of cases in Pakistan, just days after they were declining.
COVID-19 is lethal and has taken the lives of more than 22500 Pakistanis so far. We need to be careful and continue following the SOPs as its new symptoms are difficult to detect.
