With the onset of the third wave of coronavirus, Pakistan has entered a state of chaos and turmoil. While the vaccine rollout did raise a lot of hope amongst the people, the mutant virus has surely challenged that hope and has triggered another wave of fear and anxiety. That said, besides the most common symptoms highlighted by the National Health Service (NHS), seven new symptoms have been associated with the new strain of coronavirus(COVID-19).
Besides fever, dry cough and loss of sense of smell and taste, following are the 7 other signs you should watch out for:
1- Sore throat
Having a prickly, itchy throat, which could also feel like you have experienced some swelling can be indicators of a sore throat. It is one of the most commonly experienced symptoms in a COVID-19 infection.
2- Muscle ache & joint pain
Muscle pain associated with COVID-19 usually feels like tenderness to the touch of the muscle or pain with movements of the muscle. In some cases, a virus infection can cause aches and pains in the joints. This pain may mimic the pain of rheumatoid arthritis.
3- Diarrhea
Some patients with COVID-19 experience gastrointestinal symptoms, particularly diarrhea, as the first sign of illness.
4- Conjuctivities
Conjunctivitis usually affects both eyes with itching, burning and redness. They may feel gritty like something is in the eye, and there may be some puffiness around the eyes. It also causes burning, red eyes, but there is usually a watery discharge as well .
5- Headache
A headache caused by COVID-19 may feel like a tight, squeezing sensation around your head. Unlike migraine, it presents mostly as a whole-head, severe-pressure pain.
6- Skin rash
Some doctors are reporting rashes tied to COVID-19. It appears as red and bumpy areas which may occur anywhere on the body.
7- Discoloration of fingers or toes
Doctors have noticed that some patients who test positive for the coronavirus develop discolored and swollen toes or fingers. At first, you might see a bright red color that gradually turns to purple.
While COVID-19 symptoms resemble signs of the common cold or other allergies, it is important that you get yourself tested as soon as you develop any signs of the virus. Until you get your reports, you must remain in isolation to contain the spread of the virus.
Unless you receive your test results, do not allow any visitors and avoid socializing. If you develop mild symptoms, you can treat COVID at home.
In case the symptoms get worse and you experience severe health complications, seek medical help and visit a hospital immediately.
