Shab-e-Barat, the 15th of Sha’aban, is considered as the night of blessings and forgiveness. It will be observed on the night between Wednesday (today) and Thursday (tomorrow) with a dampened traditional religious zeal. But, this time it will also serve another purpose. Muslims will seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty as the pandemic seems to be spreading far and wide.
Amidst the ongoing situation, mosques are under lockdown due to fears of coronavirus spread and people have been compelled to offer prayers at their homes. Traditionally, large numbers of the faithful throng the mosques to offer special prayers on Shab-e-Barat under normal conditions. However, this time government has imposed a strict ban on such outdoor activities.
Sindh has taken the decision of closing the graveyards ahead of Shab-e-Barat. The government has said that the lockdown would remain intact for the night of Shab-e-Barat. People can’t visit the graveyards this time. They are being asked to pray at home.
Moreover, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) urged the nation to observe ‘Shab-e-Tauba’ (night of forgiveness) instead of ‘Shab-e-Barat’. It is due to the coronavirus cases surge across the country. “Pray two rakats namaz, ask Allah for forgiveness and his mercy to get rid of this pandemic,” Council Chief Tahir Ashrafi said.
Muslims urges everyone to pray for the world on Shab-e-Barat
However, the whole world is battling the coronavirus pandemic. Muslims across the globe are requesting each other to pray for the world together on this night. They believe that this night will bring health, prosperity, and peace around the world.

Maulana Tariq Jameel gives stark reminder
Furthermore, we have come across a video where Pakistan’s renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel reminds every Muslim about the importance of Shab-e-Barat. In the light of the Holy Quran, he also reminds Muslims about those who won’t be forgiven on this night. Those people include Polytheist [Mushrik], one who holds hatred for someone, supercilious [Mutakabbir], disobedient to parents and alcoholic.

Importance of Shab-e-Barat
This night is the night of blessings and accountability wherein mass judgments regarding lives, deaths, bestowments, and blessings for the next year are made by Almighty Allah. Judgments for awarding blessings and Rizq to the believers are also made and prayers of the believers are answered.
However, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) commended worshipping on this night because, after the sunset of the 14th of Shaban, Allah Almighty comes to the first heaven, from where He calls upon his believer and listens to their wishes.
Shab-e-Barat is one night in which a Muslim can repent on their previous mistakes and sins. It is in this night that a Muslim can turn towards Allah and find His doors of forgiveness open for them.
