There is no doubt that what we are currently experiencing will leave an unforgettable mark across the globe. The coronavirus pandemic has increased a sense of gratitude for what we have. Recently, we have seen a new trend where people are naming their kids after the undying event.
A couple in India have named their twins born ‘Corona and Covid’ amid the global coronavirus pandemic. The siblings (a girl and a boy) were born in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh on March 27 during the ongoing lockdown in the country.
“The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, my husband and I wanted to make the day memorable,” mother Preeti Verma told Press Trust of India. The couple made the decision, she said after hospital workers began referring to the babies as Corona and Covid.
They named the boy Covid and the girl Corona. “There is a lot of apprehensions nowadays regarding COVID-19. We wished to ease the anxiety and fear associated with these words and also make the occasion memorable. So, I and my husband took an instant decision to name our twins Covid (boy) and Corona (girl),” Preeti added.
Indian families loving corona baby names
Moreover, a few days back, two families in Uttar Pradesh have named their babies ‘Corona’ and ‘Lockdown’ with a hope that they would remind people about taking precautions.
A baby girl born in Gorakhpur on the day of Indian Curfew has been named ‘Corona’. While a boy born a week later in Deoria district of the state has been named ‘Lockdown’.
“I rushed my wife to the PHC, where she delivered a handsome baby boy. I named him after Lockdown as we all are reeling under COVID-19 pandemic,” said the father.
A staff nurse at the Indian hospital said, “The baby girl was born on Janta Curfew day and we were surprised as she was named Corona by her uncle. Her uncle told us that Corona has brought unity in the country.”

On March 18, a Twitter user uploaded a photo of a registration form that revealed that a newborn baby from the Philippines was named ‘Covid Rose’.
Another Twitter user also uploaded a screenshot of a parent naming him ‘Covid Bryant’ which also is inspired by COVID-19 and the late basketball superstar Kobi Bryant. Kobi had tragically died earlier this year in a helicopter crash along with one of his daughters and other passengers.
