According to the Khaleej Times, users of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be banned for sharing their Netflix password outside of their residences as of July 20.
Netflix Password Sharing Banned In UAE
The move is part of a larger effort by the streaming company to crack down on the popular habit of password sharing. A Netflix customer support representative verified to Khaleej Times that the new regulation went into force on July 20.
According to the spokesman, only persons living in the same house can share passwords and access the same Netflix account under the new conditions.
Netflix will monitor the WiFi networks and IP addresses of devices logged into each account in order to implement these policies.
The same policy has been carried out in India, with Netflix contacting consumers who share their accounts outside of their residences.
According to Mashable, similar limits had already been imposed in over 100 countries, including key markets such as the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil.
Netflix, on the other hand, has announced a new feature that allows paying consumers to add an additional person from outside their family to their account for an additional monthly cost.
According to Mashable, this process has been simplified to allow subscribers to move a profile to a new account while maintaining their viewing history and personalized suggestions.
Netflix began cracking down on password sharing early this year in its largest market, the United States, in order to increase income.
