The second test match of Ashes is surrounded by many controversies including Johnny Bairstow’s out that’s still alive on social media platforms. On the other hand, the Australian newspaper gave a new name to the skipper of England Ben Stokes, and his team “Crybabies”.
England media has already been in furious mode along with the former English players over Bairstow’s dismissal and now this Australian newspaper added spice on the losing side.
A user shared the screenshot of the image on a social media platform and right after that Ben Stokes didn’t waste any time and quickly responded to it.
Ben Stokes Responds to Australian Newspaper
Following the response, “That’s not me, since when did I bowl with the new ball,” Stokes tweeted.
England is 2-0 down in the Ashes series, Pat Cummins gave his side the first victory and secured the lead. The Ashes series has been considered one of the most arch-rival series in cricket history.
Australian bowling and batting dominance can be seen throughout both innings. Usman Khawaja nailing with his bat.
Despite Ben Stokes’s heroic innings, the English side lost the match. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was also presented to support his side.
Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal was not in keeping with the spirit of the game, Sunak’s spokesman told reporters. “The prime minister agrees with (England captain) Ben Stokes who said he simply wouldn’t want to win a game in the manner that Australia did,” the spokesman said.
Rishi Sunak was the one who convinced Moeen Ali to return to the squad after the retirement.
Aussies Broke The Spirit
Though Bairstow’s dismissal was within the rules of the game, England captain Ben Stokes believed Australia broke “the spirit” of the laws of cricket. “Do I want to win in that manner?” Stokes posed. “The answer for me is no.”
“If the shoe was on the other foot I would have put more pressure on the umpires and asked whether they had called ‘Over’ and had a deep think about the whole spirit of the game and would I want to do something like that.”
Now the third test will be a big decider for both the teams, whether the English side bounces back to claim their victory or the Aussies retain the Ashes.
