The High Court ruled that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should not be notified of an insult that former Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis made against Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and that he should be withdrawn from his role as a commentator.

The ruling was issued by an HC bench consisting of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md. Atabullah on Wednesday, November 8. In response to the ruling, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and its president have 10 days to respond.
For the state, Tushar Kanti Roy and Salim Azad appeared as Deputy Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General, respectively. The writ was filed on Tuesday, November 7, by advocate ABM Waliur Rahman.
According to Waliur Rahman Khan, the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the board president have been asked to respond to the rule. The date for hearing the rule has been set for November 19.
Bangladesh faced Sri Lanka in the World Cup last Monday.
Shakib’s actions were decried by Younis and former Sri Lankan cricketer Russell Arnold in the commentary box as “unsportsmanlike.”

Shakib denounced both his behavior and Bangladesh’s approach, claiming they were against the spirit of cricket. Younis was specifically called out.
