On Thursday around 2:30 pm, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter Scale hit Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and other places in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The shaking lasted for about five to six seconds before calming down.
In the capital city, people came out of tall buildings when the earthquake happened. The tremors were also felt in places like Peshawar, Gujrat, Burewala, Gujranwala, and more areas in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Various regions, including Malakand, Upper and Lower Dir, Kohat, Swat, Charsadda, Khyber, Buner, Jamrud, Haripur, Abbottabad, Chiniot, Kamalia, Shorkot, Vehari, Sangla Hill, Attock, felt both mild and strong shaking.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad reported that the earthquake started at 2:20 pm, with its epicenter in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan. The tremors went down 213 kilometers deep.
Initial reports mentioned no harm to people or property. The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority’s spokesperson stated that authorities were checking buildings for damage, and they had deployed equipment and staff in case of any aftershocks.
In Afghanistan, the earthquake measured 6.3 on the Richter Scale and was felt as far as New Delhi in India, Poonch district in held Kashmir, and Uzbekistan.
