A new grading system is set to be introduced in matriculation and inter-exams, aiming to shift the focus from a marks-driven competition to promoting quality education. The Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) has spearheaded this initiative, with the results for the annual exams of classes 9th and 11th scheduled to be disclosed under the new grading system in 2024.
This innovative grading system adopts a 10-point scale (A++, A+, A, B++, B+, B, C, D, E, U), replacing the previous 7-point scale (A-1, A, B, C, D, E, F). The IBCC highlights that the updated system aims to ease the competitive pressure among students, parents, and institutions in the search for maximum marks. The 10-point grading scheme is tailored to augment the assessment and evaluation processes for students.

During a workshop dedicated to implementing the new grading scheme for Sindh examination boards, IBCC Chairman Ghulam Ali Mallah highlighted the objective of liberating students from the race for marks and enhancing the overall quality of education. The workshop received a positive response, showcasing the commitment of Sindh Examination Boards to progressive changes.
Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK), Sharaf Ali Shah, expressed optimism about the new grading system, expecting its potential to bring convenience for both students and teachers. He highlighted that such systems are already widespread worldwide and stressed the need for adapting assessment systems to align with the evolving landscape of education.
Importantly, this alteration in the grading policy does not impact qualifications, as the scheme of studies stays the same.
