General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the departing Chief of Army Staff (COAS), paid goodbye visits to President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier today. During their encounter, the president reportedly expressed his best wishes to General Bajwa, as reported by the media.
Later, the departing Army Chief attended a goodbye luncheon thrown by PM Shehbaz as a gesture of gratitude for his service. Tomorrow at 9 a.m., the ceremonial change of command ceremony for the new COAS will take place.
During the event, General Bajwa will transfer his responsibilities to General Asim Munir. To welcome the new COAS, the ceremony will be attended by the heads of the armed forces and top civil and military personnel.
Also invited to the ceremony are journalists, federal officials, ambassadors, and dignitaries.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza replaced General Nadeem Raza as chairman of the joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC) on Sunday, gaining the second-highest post in the military after the COAS.
President Alvi accepted a summary given by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the appointment of Asim Munir as the subsequent COAS and Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the new CJCSC last week.
After General Bajwa, General Asim and General Sahir were the most senior generals in the Pakistani Army, and they assumed command in the respective sequence.
